The only explanation we found for the festival was this notice at one of the restaurants. It was apparently a Fête des Corps Saints. We speculated whether this related to All Saints day but this is on 1st November. When we got home we googled it and found it actually relates to the saints' bodies, rather than as we thought, a body of saints. It is a feast day to celebrate the relics of a saint or saints having been moved (from where they were found or originally kept) to a holier or higher status place. Google also told us that this Fête takes place annually in Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne on the first weekend in September.
In the evening there was a funfair
and we ate out in the square.

There is something about that creamy brown paint with the pale grey/blue paint that I love.
I thought these white rocks, that look like they'd been placed in the river, gave an eerie effect in the sun and shadow of this rather still, narrow strip of water between the 'mainland' and the island.
Not all of the buildings are ancient. We thought this was some sort of accommodation for elderly people.

We went to a Milladieu festival in a remote field in the Lot round about 1978. Most people were naked, which put us off our veggieburgers a bit…
