One of the things we discovered in Martel was a 'preserved' steam railway that ran to and from St Denis.
It wasn't like the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway (of The Railway Children fame) that we're used to around here. It was much cruder and much more exciting!
For a start there were the open carriages...
...lots of them.
Then there was the countryside we passed through....
... and the cliff top position of the track.
Look carefully in the photo above and you might be able to see the Dordogne river as it bends at the foot of the cliff. This is a spot where we used to swim just outside a village called Floirac.
We stayed that night just outside the railway station where the area was reserved for motorhomes between 18.00h and 10.00h. Outside those hours cars could park there too.
