On Saturday 3rd September we moved on about 20 km upstream to Camping Des Iles. This campsite is on an island in the Dordogne. To gain access to the site we had first to go under this bridge, which was not much higher than our 2.9 metres, before going over a bridge to the island.

Pitched, on yet another beautiful wooded site.

We chose a riverside pitch.

Unlike the campsite we'd just left this one wasn't in the middle of nowhere but on the edge of the medieval town of Beaulieu sur Dordogne. On the Sunday morning we walked into town and could hear lively, jazzy music.

After listening to the band for a while we noticed another a little way up the street which started playing when the first one stopped. Over the course of the morning we must have listened to about 4 jazz / pop type bands who moved around and played in different venues around the town centre.

This more traditional group of musicians and dancers processed to the church and waited for the congregation to emerge. They then formed a sort of guard of honour before going into their dance routines.

We next came across this dancer and Latin American style troupe. . .

. . . and watched them dance off down the road.

After lunch back at the van we walked along the riverbank for a while . . .

. . .before taking another route back into town.

This time we came across a procession of floats. . .

pulled by tractors . . .

. . . and followed by the bands.

The town was filling up a bit by now. It was a great day, all the better because we weren't expecting it.
