Nous avons du retard

 We've been learning French with our tutor, Liz, for nearly a year now.  We're using a BBC scheme called The French Experience, which consists of a course book and 4 CDs.  We've just reached the end of the second CD, so I guess we're halfway through.  A recent lesson was entitled 'Nous avons du retard' or 'We have a delay'.

The following lesson is 'La douche ne marche pas', or 'The shower doesn't work'.  This lesson also tells us that heating is 'le chauffage'.

Well, our boiler is not working properly.  We don't have a problem with our showers, as they work independently of the boiler, but our water / central heating system has a fault.  Because of this we have postponed our holiday by a further two days.  We should have left this morning but instead made an arrangement for the gas engineer to call tomorrow.  Our wonderful friend, Lynne, who is already going to be feeding the cats and looking after plants while we're away, will now also be around to supervise the boiler repair, assuming that they can't actually do it tomorrow.  So...

Malheureusement, nous avons du retard parce que le chauffage ne marche pas!
