We are featuring the bridges of France this year, and Cahors has plenty.
I saw many trains, passenger and goods, cross this bridge (and heard them at night), but did not have a camera to hand for the right 20 seconds. I waited for an hour like a fool - nothing.
Cahors has a series of 25 'secret' gardens and we walked round quite a few. The project was to recreate garden style and horticultural methods of the middle ages. I liked this very much.
Cahors market where we bought very nice strawberries, bread, cheeses and sausage.
The mixed flower and vegetable garden of the monks with a 'simples' (really) herb garden - we were told it meant one herb used alone. The rhubarb looks very forward.
These raised beds are called 'withies' in English, made of chestnut palings and are just filled with compost.
A little later in the year this rose pergola with white flowers dominating should look grand. It is a garden inspired by the legend of the
fairy Mesuline.
Later on 17 April we journeyed north to Lesley and David's house. They are faxters known to Chris through posting on Motorhomefacts. It was very kind of them to let us overnight and use their REAL shower as a treat. We had a great evening with BBQed food and sampling both Cahors and Bergerac wines. They have hectares of land, an orchard, chickens, raised beds for the vegetables and are in the deepest countryside. The temperature was over 30.
