Calling at Montreuil on our return to Calais is becoming a tradition. There are several very good reasons for this. First it's a lovely town with a reasonable aire, though the bourne didn't deliver water this year. Then there's the local shopping for cheeses and chocolate. Not least Montreuil has a Wine Society cave for loading up before Calais.
It's also traditional to walk the the 3k of ramparts and note this is the town from which Haigh directed the British sector of the western front - that is, nowhere near it.
In place General de Gaulle we were interested in this 1940s outfit hauled by a Renault without running boards.
