Last Sunday we went away for the night in the new van. We stayed at the Caravan Club site near Chester, but apart from a half mile walk to the massive local Sainsburys we didn't go anywhere. Given the appalling weather the main purpose of this trip was to get to know the van. In one sense motorhomes are more complex than houses as you have the same kind of facilities but in a more complicated form. The fridge, for instance, is '3 way': it works on gas, 240v electricity, and 12v electricity, depending on circumstances. In this van the central heating system works only on gas, but needs 12v to operate, our previous van could also be heated by 240v electricity.

Our first meal in the Hymer was salmon, potatoes and red pepper cooked in the Remoska, and steamed broccoli cooked on the hob. We also made a fruit salad. This was accompanied by a lovely bottle of Vouvray from Sainsburys. (Chris)
