St. Vaast La Hougue
It was a beautiful afternoon when we arrived in the unspoilt old harbour town named after Vigour the Bigger's old mate Saint Vast the Huge. Chris is reading up about it in her pocket Butler's as she relaxes on the old quay.
Where the valerian grows out the old harbour walls as the old sailing ships ride at anchor in the old basin.
This photo of Chris is a total set-up. She had to walk through the shot six times before I was moderately happy. She was not.
We walked down the old streets of this sleepy back-water noting the firmly shut establishments where on other days comestibles could be provenerized. Indeed these two shops did get round to opening on Tuesday. We were there on Sunday.
But there can be nothing finer than the provender merchants Gosselin. Man and boy for centuries they have provendered the old town of St Vaast with victuals. It is said that old man Gosselin would deliver vital victuals himself in person to old ships docked in the old harbour.
I say that from the poster promos on the side wall of their establishment the old buggers look like they've been trained in customer service by Waite's of Hebden Bridge.
