As can be seen, I'm not giving up my polarising filter yet a while. We were on the municipal campsite at Arromanches two days ago and visited both of the WW2 historical museums, which were very interesting. One has lots of military things in it, but does not mention PLUTO (Pipeline Under the Ocean) on which Miss Ida Dewison worked at Metropolitan Vickers Trafford Park works. People must think that the invasion vehicles just filled up at the local petrol station, or nicked it off of Jerry. Well they didn't, it arrived through a pipe thingy and my mum was an armature winder on the prototype team of top boffins what made it. She was very proud of that work.
The 'mulberry' harbour extended further than those submerged caissons that can be seen just below the sea horizon. Each of those was originally 7,000 tons of concrete which could be floated across the channel. Just after being built in the UK they were apparently stored and hidden in the Thames estuary by being submerged.
The weekend has been a commemoration and celebration of the allied victory and the peace in Europe it brought. However Thursday, of course, brought other news from Blighty - five more years of a now majority Conservative-only administration.
I went out before dusk to take the sunset, this time with the tripod and all the equipment. Scott Kelby is right when he states that walking round with a serious tripod and a long lens grabs the attention of certain males.
