Last year we signed up to a new scheme. Blackbark is a co-operative which has taken on the woodland management for Calderdale Council. We paid them a load of money up front and a week after we arrived home we had our first delivery of wood. Here it is stacked in the garage. It has been seasoned but is considerably wetter than the wood we have previously bought from Grange Fuels. This could be because, in our very wet summer, Blackbark's storage isn't quite adequate. Hopefully it'll dry out before we need to use it. The garage isn't ideal for wood storage but it is the only place we can keep it adequately sheltered from further rain.
Apart from the greenhouse, that is. But we had to use the greenhouse to store our existing stock of wood, from last year. This was previously in the garage but had to be moved to make room for the new delivery. Wood moving and stacking took us at least a day.
There was of course much other activity in the greenhouse. The tomatoes, peppers and basil etc. had survived our absence but there was much catching up to do there, and in the garden.

It's been a bad year for seasoning logs as well as surface wetness. Have you tried recyled wood briquettes? We get ours from Mr Briq but you can probably source something similar locally. Very dry - great for difficult lighting days

Thanks Jude but we've not got a problem at the moment as we had quite a lot of dry wood in the garage. This is now in the greenhouse and there should be sufficient to see us through for quite a bit longer. The problem will be if the newly delivered wood (well, we've had it a month now) isn't actually dry by the time we need to use it. It should be seasoned but may have since been stored open to the elements. We're not sure how well it will dry in the garage due to lack of through draught. Will look at mrbriq though. Chris
