On our last full day on Skye we were due to drive from the campsite at Ashaig to Armadale ferry port and pitch up overnight, having seen Bob & Liz meantime. The day started bright and clear, but just after the above photo was taken across the bay near our campsite looking towards the Cullins, an almighty down pour swept across and it became very cold. We abandoned our walk to the foreshore. Later we motored into Broadford about 3 kilometres away.

This is the beach at Broadford.

I'm not sure what part of mainland Scotland we can see in these photos because Bob has the maps.

Scottish oil coming ashore here with
Alex Salmond's name on it.

In the mid afternoon we motored on to Armadale which is about 17 miles from Broadford by a road built with EU money several notices told us.

The gardens at the Clan Donald Centre had an exceptional display of rhododendron. The gardener explained to us the provenance of some specimens. He was pruning the beautiful white 19th century hybrid on the right, below when I asked about the tree in the centre of that photo which to me seemed to have the bark of a prunus. He said it was a rare birch from the Himalayas, from seed in the high Tibetan mountains near Everest base camp and planted out as a young tree in 1988.
