Dinner With The Johnsonians

Kathy and David are visiting right now so I interupt our Scottish trip to tell you about it. About 20 mm of rain have fallen during the day but this evening it has actually stopped raining. We went into Todmorden for dinner and had a lovely meal together at the Thai restaurant behind the happy couple. The river is definitely in spate above. For those who don't know the topology of this town, two rivers descend into Tod, the Roch (this one) from the south and the Calder from the north west. The confluence of these two is underneath the town hall and/or market hall. Then the enlarged Calder turns East. Need anyone wonder why we have floods when some Victorian idiots forced these waters into such a confined space and then ran it underground in order to create real estate and municipal architecture (that thing in scaffold and drapes is the town hall). The modern-day rapid draining of the fells to 'improve' sheep rearing hasn't helped either.
The upper Calder valley is famed for its pies. Below is a poster in a caf on Water Street for pies. The word 'Sale' looks like the 'l' is a 't'. The cross is a dead bluebottle.
