Now that we are back from our French hols I've been to the Walsden polytunnel to view the damage. Germination of some seeds has been patchy, particularly runner beans. However the tomato seedlings were suffering from lack of nitrogen and possible over-watering. I've thinned them into individual pots and used a different compost reinforced with ch pelleted chicken manure and a heavy dressing of vermiculite. This has been recommended by
Kitchen Garden and we shall see if they recover. This Russian tomato variety has been chosen for its ability to develop rapidly in poor climatic conditions - but like where in Russia: the Steppes or Siberia?
