On 22 May we were on our way back to Calais along the Normandy coast. We had an over-night stop at Lez Eaux near Granville. It's a Castel site which means it's got a chateau with a stretch of water and is part of the franchise.
Their thing is they go in for topiary like at Quiberon.
By now it's raining quite often.
The railway station called Trouville-Deauville is between the two towns that are separated by the river Touques. Both are sea-side resorts of somewhat fading glory. The hey-day would be 1890s I guess. Although the present station looks 20th century.
The strand is Blackpool quality, however the hotels and guest houses are built right onto the sand with boardwalks for access at the front. Vehicle access is round the back.
In the rear access streets behind the esplanade these hotels of style, if that's what they still are, look very posh and private.
Lots of charming streets of local shops and little squares ...
It has that belle epoch, or Third Republic feel captured in the black and white prints of Paris by
Eugène Atget. His work was celebrated and championed by Man Ray. I think they had atelier in the same street.
To try out this idea, I'll just do a B&W of this square ...

We stayed for the night at the aire de stationment near the sports stadium accommodating 10 motorhomes - with some facilities.
