Now You Cedar Now You Don't

One of the features of our garden has been the 30-odd foot Cedar Atlantis (I think). It has provided darkness at noon for our little greenhouse and many buckets full of needles and cones. So we decided it was time to fell the tree rather than the biennial lifting and thinning it has had. Roger Burnett is your very man for felling trees. No finer, nor cheaper in the county. And it's nice to see him; swap quotes from Withnail and I.
The lower limbs are sawn off to form a bed at the base of the tree onto which the sections cut from the top will be lowered on a rope.

The last part is trickier as Roger will obviously run out of stubs on which to stand. So the final few yards are dropped entire with me pulling on the retaining rope to a) make it fall and b) stop it crashing into the balustrade.
That worked all right. Next we have to clear all the usable cut timber and store it for seasoning whilst the brash goes to Roger's gaff where it will form a 'dead hedge' in a field.

Felling and removing the brash took a day. It was still another half day to salvage some long usable branches for burning and clear up generally.
