It took us about 15 mins to walk from our campsite, through the Chatsworth estate parkland (above) to the house and gardens.
We didn't bother with looking round the house, having done this on a previous visit in 2008. We found the gardens and the outside of the house much more interesting. Somehow, the visual effect of the renovations being done seemed in keeping with the sculpture exhibition that was just ending.

Both years we had fantastic weather which, as John has said, was commented on by the woman who served us in the shop.
There were still quite a few sculptures still around.
I'm sure we've seen the one above at Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
Mostly we walked around enjoying the sunshine and the fabulous autumn colours.
John's 'birthday meal' was lunch eaten in this café.
Later we had afternoon tea in the same place. I had a fantastic vanilla cheesecake. It was so good I had another the next day.
The cafe was housed in the stable block that John blogged earlier. Here you can see through the central courtyard to the far gate.
From which we eventually emerged into the parkland to make our way back to the van.
Back at the camp in the evening we watched a DVD, What's Up Doc?
