If one visits Durham I guess it's obligatory to attempt photos of the cathedral. The weather was pretty awful for photography: damn near no contrast, sun, or cloud effect. Splendour was shining on neither cathedral nor castle walls. I suppose I could have photographed the quaint old shops such as a nice deco facade (upper storey only) to Burtons, now given over to expensive outdoor leisure gear.
We had several lovely cakes in Vennel's cafe. So uplifting to over-hear first year undergraduates discussing their tutorial on the nature of existence ... "yes, but don't you think he's so shallow? Estelle, just dump him."
