We Hastened Up Pultney St to the Tilney's

No, we didn't. First we dined in the Pump Room (most excellent). We shopped for a few hours and then we took an open-topped tour bus to view this fine city. Afterwards, afternoon tea was taken in the Jane Austen tea rooms (on Gay Street), where several more purchases completed our retail excursion: abridged Austen for Dory (and myself I must confess - each volume the same length! Reminds one of a remark about Beatrice Webb by Virginia Wolf :"Her ideas are like the grass of a newly mown lawn. All the same length").

Here is the bridge with shops either side leading onto fashionable Pultney St, long which the heroines of Austen sped.
