Dorchester has England's largest and best preserved
Roman Town House. It now finds itself in the grounds of the Dorsetshire County Council offices. Built and then reconstructed throughout the Roman occupation of Britain the visitor can now see the foundations, floor plan, extensive mosaics and hypocaust (above). The site has been preserved and presented to the public to the highest international standards of preservation. A protective roofing allows the visitor to both see everything and also gain some idea of what the height of the original would have been.
