Paul Byrne has made and begun the installation of our new balustrade. It's made of beech. The top rail is laminated making one continuous piece with the elegant curve to the left. More photos when the job is finished off. We need to decide on a finish. The options are varnish (traditional v polyurethane), finishing oils and/or waxes. As Chris insists the balustrade is also a drying rack for sheets, duvet covers and bath towels, the finish has to withstand dampness to some extent.
