Off Again In The Motor Home

We Set off from Todmorden on 29 August for our second French holiday of the year. However, this time it was necessary to call on relatives and friends around London. To make driving easier for Johnny it was agreed to take a BritStop about half-way there. We chose the Royal Oak in Duddington. Now neither of us had ever walked around a Northamptonshire village never mind slept in one, to our knowledge. The trip down was the usual mix of boredom, rain and long delays. Duddington however was rather exclusive. The sort of car parked up casually would be a Bentley Edge from c. 1934. There were no people around on the streets.

Of course there is no regular bus service, just a stone built, slated roofed shelter with attendant GPO red telephone box c. 1934 - prolly a K6. Though on better reflection there may be an early morning bus to take the peasants in the ex-council houses to their places of toil. We thought there was an ex-council estate on this road, by the broken fences, discarded mattresses, car parts strewn around the torn up grass of the over-grown gardens.
It soon became pretty clear that Farrow & Ball paint was obligatoire for the properties of the gentry.

This is, obviously, Pear Tree Cottage. Cottage! After a pleasant night's rest we motored south to the different reality of the metropolis.
