Quimper - The City

On Friday 16 May we walked the 3 k into Quimper on the route advertised as pleasantly wooded. Well following it meant we did eventually reach Locmaria and its lovely medieval garden of sustainability (with EU grants of course)

In the main the signage was excellant.

Views of the city and the river nice enough.

And all professionally designed, installed and maintained to evoke the kind of garden a monastery would run to feed and treat the ailments of the inmates, casual callers, local poor and such. The present day ecclesiastical establishment is across the road. It was indeed very well patronised that afternoon, but there wasn't really any fruit or veg actually ready to eat right now even in sunny Brittany.

These are photos to particularly annoy Nick showing Quimper's well ancient cathedral, which has a bend in the nave.

And it's here that the afternoon's clothing comedy routine occurred. I had my new Rohan icepack garment of style looped through my camera bag. Somewhere betwix'd the cathedral, afternoon tea and the art gallery lost it. We went searching round, then i saw a brownish looking plastic bag thing blowing about the totally pristine pavé. Odd how £70 worth of new garment looks like rubbish when dropped on the street and totally ignored by the masses. Question of better taste in the case of the French I guess.

We were looking for some local shopping for cheese and milk.

In the heart of the town centre there is an aweful lot of medieval looking property. At street level are chi-chi shops. Do not go here for local food shopping. There isn't any.

We did have Beton afternoon tea though of coffee and koffi anan (kouign anann??).

We didn't go round the art gallery as it was closing in one hour neatly located behind a fun fair. You might think that's quite enough, but not at 6 euros each, we thought.
