Presqu' île de Quiberon - First Day

Quiberon is a narrow peninsular running north-south almost at right angles to Brittany. It has a lot of weather, but we were very lucky, there was very little rain, plenty of warm sunshine and a good breeze off of the sea.

Why does one go there? The sandy beaches, the lovely sea views, the rugged Côte Sauvage and of course the magnificent topiary of the campsite Do Mi Si  La Mi. That name appeared to relate, somehow, to the national flags of France, Germany, Italy, Holland and Belgium.
The whole of this huge, relatively empty and beautifully maintained campsite is hedged with coniferous topiary.
It's a 35 minute walk to Grande Plage, Quiberon, but only 5 mins. on the 2 euro navette which leaves from a park-and-ride near to the track bed of the SNCF. Yes, it is in service, but only June to the second week in September at weekends. So very much a tourist thing. It's called the tire bouchon train.
The esplanade gave a lovely view of Grande Plage along which we found a delightful salon de thé, with patisserie at moderate prices. The town was full of bicyclettists and here is a splendid tandem celebrating that great English city of champions. The spelling of 'Britain' prolly owes something to Breton.
Maisons of style graced the esplanade, and most of the town indeed, each charmingly named and tastfully painted. There seemed to be a Lorraine theme in this part of Quiberon.

We had afternoon tea at a really nice salon de thé on the esplanade. Lovely patisseries and ice creams.
