We are driven in one of the FSC van's to a farm receiving high level stewardship payments for, inter alia, the maintenance of its grassland in a manner that encourages the growth of wild flower meadows.
First, the limestone pavement and modern grassland management with little wild flora.
Our party turns a corner of Tom Lord's wild flower meadow into a temporary estaminet.
A stone wall encloses a triangle of land where the pavement is just visible in lines resembling an ancient lumber yard. 
Meanwhile, we learn the (above ground) difference between meadow and bulbous buttercups - sepals up, sepals down.
