Images of Corfe Castle

Late afternoon of 16 April we returned from Swanage.

As we enter Corfe railway station there's a decent view of the castle
In the late afternoon we take tea in the NT castle tea garden to see 'splendour fall on castle walls'.
Trudging back to the camp site the photographer's golden hour illuminates the western side of this historic monument to the invader's power. Judging by the David Mitchell commentary on the history of the castle we listened to in the visitor centre, what must have appeared a dreadful engine of oppression to Anglo-Saxons was thoroughly absorbed into local life by the time of the Civil War. So when the Parliamentary army wrecked the place, the populace were none too pleased, but that did not seem to prevent them from stealing its stone over long decades.
