My Welmar piano was purchased in 1940 by my father. It was in a genuine bargain sell-off by a Manchester musical instrument shop before the expected bombing started.
Chris Brown took away the action of the piano two weeks ago. In his workshop he fitted new damper felts and return springs throughout. Above he is lining up the action for re-fitting.
The on-site job was to tighten up the keys, make sure the damping actually works properly and then tune the piano. Here we see Chris Brown making minor adjustments key by key. What happens to the keys over 70 years is that they move from left to right or 'belly ache'.

Finally it's time to tune the piano up to concert pitch.
And then put the boards back on the piano. After three hours work it is finished and like new with its beautiful mellow warm tone restored.
