At Bracewell's, the butchers, I overheard that a steam train would be routed through Todmorden (rather than Huddersfield) on its way to Manchester. The 'Scarborough Flyer' I believe. Is that a Mk II coach?
Beautiful summer afternoon so I got out the Ransomes, Sims & Jefferies Ajax Mk4 lawnmower. The sound alone of real mowing is enough to complete a perfect day.
Despite cold, rain and wind we do have some flowers to look at. And the runner beans are at last bearing edible pods.
The persicaria affinis is now well established
Verbena bonariensis newly re-established and sometimes attracting the few butterflies we have in the upper Calder Valley.
Betula 'Snow Queen' now looking very strong.
