Nick negotiated with Peter Rigg for the loan of his digger, which he kindly agreed to deliver to the site on a trailer. Nick had also asked John Michael if he would drive the thing, and, as he'd formerly been an employee at Riggs and driven this very digger, Peter agreed.
Peter and Nick sort out the details of where the post are actually going.
The trench is started into which the 2.5 m high mesh will be curled back underground and burried.
The fence is about 2 m high. This was very hard work in the cold and wet over several days during the last two weeks.
As this fence progresses (it is about 250 m long) we hope to get the FJFT to do some work on it - we'll be lucky! Mike and I are going to prepare what in permaculture I now know to call a 'base map' of the site. I'm also looking at the possibility of using the OS OpenDate mapping to download 1:10000 'street plans' to develop a Todmorden town IET sites map that we can use on the web and in real printed form for our veg tourists. A large party from the Basque region of Spain visited this week and spent two enjoyable and informative days in the pouring rain walking round our sites. They loved it.
