Van Life in Romarantin

Yesterday 27 April Chris was ready for a walk into town. Our campsite is right on the banks of a river which flows eventually into the Cher. There is a very easy walk into town along the river through woods.

However it was necessary to go under a main road.

There are several islands in the centre of town, the river flow controlled by sluices.

Then between the town hall and the river we came across the Matra building - which seems to be a derelict racing car factory. We know nothing about it but the official notices tells us that the municipality is demolishing it and building social rented housing on the land. The link I've provided is to images of Matra (which is no longer trading).

What was more interesting to us was what the municipality had done and was doing to rehabilitate the land of Matra. It has become an area of very attractive social rented housing in excellent condition and nicely serviced.

So back along the river in early evening light.

There were no-one else on site as far as we could tell.

But by the end of the evening campers had pitched-up.
