Hase Bari Door Seal

We have long thought that the rope door seal on the woodburner needed replacing. I ordered and received the new part from Anglia Fireplaces ages ago and it just sat there. We asked several geezers who claim to do things like fit door seals if they would do this job. They declined in today's way of doing such things - no reply; never turned up; no straight answer.

Bob kindly offered to help with this task. On 22 September he came over and we did the job in a trice (that's three hours in non-builder's language).
It has been entirely successful. We should have made a youtube video to help other suckers coz actually brute force and ignorance were quite handy, although I did learn how to spell allen key.
That was the highlight.

We take off the door, weighing a mere 36 kilos.

It lies on the carpet wedged with old sheets. The old rope is pulled off and then the glue chipped out with screwdrivers, wire brushed and vacuumed. New cement or glue is applied and the (extremely expensive) replacement rope laid in its groove, the side plates then being re-bolted with a correctly spelt allen key.

Finally a trained fitter searches for gaps in the seal with a powerful LED Lenzer torch. More tricky and not shown here was re-setting the door catch on the right of the picture. It took several attempts over two nights of firing to be satisfied that the alignment was correct enough for this precision German woodburner. It's not so much a matter of escaping waste gases as one of stopping fresh air entering the combustion chamber through a miss-aligned seal.
