Today, we all went to
Martin Mere, a Wildlife & Wetland Trust nature reserve near Southport. It was
Downy Duckling Week which I did not know, but of course at this time of year we were able to see loads of ducklings, goslings and cygnets and some of them rare and endangered species from the world over. I drove us there in the motorhome and Nana organised the refreshments. Such fun ... but first the otters.
Ez really got quite excited watching two otters hunting for their food.
Obviously it was necessary to go round the reserve by the most difficult route possible.
There were lots of ducks and geese, and obviously their chicks, to over feed. Many of them seemed pretty ODed on the punters offerings.
It was necessary to make a den, and a den that was bigger and better than the one being thrown together by a gang of mere boys.
As well as the reserves for the threatened and endangered species of wild fowl, Martin Mere has extensive wetland across which we can watch the natural coming and going of birds. There are excellent hides with many facilities. Ez is watching a cock pheasant.
We went round the incubator and duckling nursery too. A grand day out and the weather turned out nice too.
