Folio Society

Danny will be raging when he sees these fabulous editions of his fave author Patrick O'Brian from the Folio Society. They are so beautifully crafted - German manufacture throughout.
The first ten books in the Collins New Naturalist series are of great interest too. Retailing after the war at around 16/- as you can see below, they are now individually available at ... £70. Honestly, I saw two at that price in the Kew bookshop last week; and you can check out the NN website too. These books from the Folio Society are facsimiles and work out at a reasonable £12.50 each. Original first editions can, I understand be priced at over £700. They are a wonderful introduction to natural history by real experts who are still revered, such as Fitter in the case of this book about the natural history of London. Although it has quaint references to 'Piltdown Man', which we now know was a hoax.
