Yesterday, Roger and I worked on reparations of dry stone walls, casual flag paths, new steps down to the stream. Then in the afternoon we set about pruning the Cornus in the lane. They are very over-grown and have been badly mauled by previous pruners with almost nil knowledge of how to do it. So under Roger's trained guidance we pruned quite severely, recognizing that it will take several year's careful pruning to bring some kind of order out of the thicket entanglement of Cornus, hawthorn, brambles and briers. Obviously what I'm aiming for is nice clean red stems of Cornus.
The prunings are seen being removed for burning on the church's waste land off their car park. That's going to have to wait because we have snow today and I have a cold, doubtless courtesy of Ez!
The van came home from New Barn Garage yesterday afternoon. Alex took four hours of exasperating hard-work to locate the ignition problem and fit the new part. There was no electrical power to the glow plugs; the electronic controller for that system had failed. All of these items were located deep in the heart of the motor and many items had to be first removed to gain access. Result, a van that starts in an instant and a very, very large bill.
