Chris and I drove first to Riverside CL at Millhouse near Penrith for an overnight stop, then to Queensberry commercial site on the Solway Firth at Powfoot in Dumfries & Galloway.
We then spent two nights at Sheila & John's tardis of a town house in the heart of throbbing Kirkcudbright, enjoying their splendid meals.
Next we had two nights at a CS at Balmangan farm between Ross Bay and Brighouse Bay where we enjoyed walks and fabulous coastal views - one of them with S&J. We tried to repay their legendary Scottish hospitality with our Remoska sausage casserole.
On our way back we called at the beautiful Scottish NT gardens at Threave. A few photos are below.
Then we came home via the CC site at Troutbeck Head. Wonderful walk down to Ullswater via High Force & Aira Force which was really impressive that day. One noted the plaque to Cecil Spring-Rice (ambassador to USA during Great War; recalled with a one-line telegram!) who had the bridge built so we can all see the Force easily. In my studies I'd known of Margery Spring-Rice as a social investigator and reformer of the 1920s (see Working Class Lives). Same family I guess. No mention of her in Wikipedia amongst the illustrious family she joined on marriage.
