Chris's Photos around Walsden

After some lunch we accompanied Lynne and Marcus to view the inundation. Chris took these photos this afternoon.

We walked up Hollins Rd then turned down the Alma Rd/St complex to come out near Pollard's chippy on Rochdale main road.

Above is what I think we call Walsden water. The terrace of houses and shops is built between the main road and Walsden Water.

This is the flooding on the main road. Much of this water has come off of the high fell to the west (in Lancashire).

The permanent way is looking pretty rubbish towards Manchester. There's the starter 4ACLS showing 'section blocked'. Though this water has not come off of the high fell to the right but along the track bed out of the engorged Walsden Water near Riggs.
Helpfully RailTrack have left a pile of gear from last time for like repairing the line when it happens again.

This junction of Rochdale Rd with Inchfield Rd to the right and St. Peter's Gate to the left. The water poured off of the high fell, came down Inchfield Rd and sought a route to either Walsden Water (culverted at this point) or the canal, so it just made a great impassible pool.
Local community minded people who actually know how to do things, built this diverter to keep the water away from property but (hopefully) help it on its way into the canal.
The water had really gone down by late afternoon and most properties here escaped, but not all.
