It was still the arts festival the next day so we travelled into Hebden Bridge to avoid Sunday in Walsden.
I'm very late with this posting, but there's been so much to do to entertain and be entertained by our house guests. They left yesterday. Ee by gum there's a lotta pictures.
Our first stop was at the Birchcliffe Centre, half way up a vertiginous hill; it is a former Baptist church. No expense seems to have been spared building this place of divine worship, unlike the wages in the mills and workshops of the town owned by the capitalists attending this temple of protestantism.
Now-a-days the place contains artisan's workshops, ateliers, studios, spaces and a hostel. It still seems vaguely religious.
There was an exhibition of old B&W photos rather like those in the town hall. However I was intrigued by these two views of the Coldhust Mill because in my home town Oldham there was such a mill. The Stewart's rented 49 Belmont Street quite near Coldhust Street. That looks very familiar to me: 1967 I'd guess when everything was either black or white. These photos are of course sepia toned so they won't fade, but then there's never enough light to make that happen naturally.
Kathy and Chris just got on with looking at the artwork and Kathy bought a very nice bowl for Chris.
And Kathy had to try the Yoga seat thingy or is it a birthing seat?
We left by the wally close with its beautiful industrial tiling.
Out into Hebden and the dancing round the Marina.
Yes, this troupe is actually doing its dancing, to One Dimension in fact, and not just warming up a bit.
A more vigorous effort was to be found in George Square as the Skiband blew their hearts out for a thrilled crowd (The Best Street Band in the World - link to video of them playing in the Hole in the Wall pub - see previous post of its near derelict state ).
Kathy & David certainly enjoyed it, whilst Chris joined hundreds of others playing virtual games on their devices rather than engaging with what's actually in front of them.
We visited the retro fashion house in the Innovation Building. Kathy purchased the above fetching hat.
Chris tried this one on, but didn't buy it.
