Before returning to Todmorden we called at Bolton-by-Bowland which is just a few miles from Holden. There were a lot of travellers on the wide verges leading to the village. We saw the caravan below being struck along its wheels by a car when, I think, the horse shied as the car approached. I thought the Highway Code stated that drivers must give way to horse-drawn vehicles. It certainly did in my day. Anyway the forces of law and order arrived later.
