Mel Green Construction of Elland have been working over two days on Church Walk immediately outside our house.
This was how bad the surface used to be before today. And the above does not show just how flooded this low point of the lane could become.
So on Friday at 09.00hrs. Mel's crew arrived with their gear and began stripping off the utter junk that was the surface of this lane.
There were two wagon loads of worn out road surface to remove, which took the lane down to some sort of even surface.
A ditch was cut across the road at its lowest point to drain the water from the 'canal side' of the lane. A culvert will drain surface water from the French drain on the left.
Then today Monday the heavy gang arrived to put in 'plains' made from recovered road scrapings. This will level up the road ready for the tar macadam final surface. It's important that the material of the 'plains' is of good quality and has tight adherence to the tarmac.
A motorway contractor's wagon full of tar macadam arrived at mid-day and the final phase of resurfacing commenced.
It's spread by hand and then tamped and rolled.
There it is. A real road now. Church Walk does not look like a country lane outside our house. We both hope it will drain now.
